A new study by MIT researchers published in Nature reveals that a ketogenic diet can accelerate tumor growth in the small intestine of mice genetically predisposed to intestinal cancer. The study found that this effect is driven by fatty acid oxidation activating PPAR proteins, which signals stem cells to multiply, rather than by ketone bodies themselves.
